PHENOMENAL RAINSTORMS. EXPERIENCED AT BROKEN HULL. Received Tlhis Morning, 12.40 o'clock SYDNEY, October 16. Phenomenal rainstorm® occurred at Broken Hill. A number of residents were flooded out, and considerable damage done . The rain caused' the biggest rise in the d'am:s for thirty years.

NAVAL COLLEGE. AN. AUSTRALIAN PROPOSAL. Received This Morning, 12.40 o'clock SYDNEY, October 16. The Commonwealth Government propose to establish a naval college at Port Hacking at a cost of £IOO,000, whereof £35,000 is promised from, the Dreadnought .fund. It is expected to complete the college within a year.
EARTHQUAKE IN ITALY. IN THE CATANIA WSTRIOT. SIX FATALITIES REPORTED. (Received Last Night, 11.40 o'clock.) ROME, October 16. An earthquake in. the Catania district killed .six at Maochia and Santa Yenerroa and fourteen elsewhere. iFifrfcy persons were injured. The chief shocks were felt between" Giarre and Acreale. Numfergius farm-houses and villa* were razed. The population was holiday making out of'doors', otherwise tlie casualties' would have been worse.
BRITISH RAILWAYMEN. ANOTHER STRIKE THREATENED. (Received Last Night, 9.45 o'clock.) LONDON, October 16. A mass meeting of Sheffield railwayman: resolved to strike unless the Midland Company fulfils the whole term® of the settlement, instead, as is alleged, of penalising prominent strikers'.
