CHILD DIES IN ITS MOTHER'S ARMS.

A very sad and distressing occurrence was investigated by the Coroner, Mr J. T. M. Hormsibyj on Saturday, at Carterton (says the News). Mrs H. G. Clark, of'" Featherstoii, came up by tflie morning train with her six weeks old baiby— a fine little boy—to visit her aunt, Mrs Joint Byers, of Caiiringffcon. She fed the baby during the journey, and was met at the station by Mr Byers and was driven, out. to Carrington. On arrival it was found) that the baby Mias dead in her arms. It did not seem -realisable, and the child Was taken with all speed to Carterton, wilier© LV Gunn examined it, but cculd only say that life was extinct. The matter was reported to the Coroner, w'ho opened' an inquest, and after hearing the circumstances adjourned the inquiry to enable a post mortem to be made, and gave the necessary permission to the mother to return to Featherston with the body. The cause of death was heart failure. Everything that sympathy could suggest was done to assist the afflicted mother, to wihom the shock was a harrowing one.
