at —— RETURN OF SUSPECTS. By Teltaravh — Frm Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. William and Maud Rodgers, who are expected of stealing jewellery from Kohn's in Queen Street, Auckland, on March 18th last, and who were subsequently arrested in San Fraoicisco, arrived by the Maitai today, in charge of Detective Scott, of Auckland. William Rodgers arrived in California from Hongkong, whence he had apparently gone via Sydney from Auckland on April 20th. Maud Rodgers arrived two days later. The suspicions of the police were aroused by a sudden inundation of jewellery into the pawnbroker's shops. Early on the morning of May 4th Rodgers was arrested, and in the evening his wife also taken into custody. Both were charged with smuggling £looo' worth of stolen property into the -.State, •• A jlie stoleri pro-; pefty'was recovered from the; pawn? shops, arid a room at 'the Winchester' Hotel, which they had engaged. Rodgers and his wife refused to discuss the affair, but when confronted with'various articles recovered, admitted having gone to 'Frisco from Sydney. Most of the jewellery recovered was marked Kohn, but Roige'-s declared it belonged to a brother in J England.
