VIOLENT EARTHQUAKE SHOCK
I WOMEN PANIC-STRICKEN. By Telegraph—Frets Association. .HASTINGS, Last Night.. ' A violent earthquake, wihioh sent women panic-stricken into -the ' stieets, and stopped the Post Office clock, was experienced here at 7.7 o'clock this evening. 'Buildings l rocked in a most alarming manner. ' " The only damage reported so far is to tine Post Office'tower', which has been slightly displaced. ' Several ugly crack® are showing in the brickwork.
The shook started the Post Office clock striking, and it is still tolling dismfally. \

NAPTHR, Last Night. A violent shock of earthquake occurred here about 7.7 o'clock .tonight. Many of the residents who nvere within doors were greatly excited and rushed .into the streets. Part of the coping from the top of tlw Provincial Hotel came down, and small pieces, of plaster fell from other ibiuildings. Several chimneys are also reported to have been shaken down.
