A Native ball is to be held at Carterton i jxt week organised by the Maoris of the Wairarapn. The Committee is Messrs Eraia Te Whaite, Parakau Maika, Tu Hirini, Haeta Apatu, and Hika Puki. Mr Hukatai Hirini is the honorary secretary, and Mr V. L. Fairbrother will be Master of Ceremonies The Belvedere Amateur Theatrical Society staged the two laughable comedies, "Catching the ' Heiress," and "The Boots at the Swan" at Parkvale last night (Thursday), before ah appreciative audience. At a meeting of the Carterton Volunteer Fire Brigade it was decided to foWard a letter of condolence to the family of the, Hate Fireman McEwen, of Masterton. It was also decided to hold a bazaar in March next with a view to clearing off the debt on the fire brigade ..tation. In the Magistrate's Court at Carterton yesterday, four young men were fined for driving motor cars through the town at an speed. The Magistrate intimated that future offenders in t'his respect would be dealt with more severely.
Mr H. Humphries, of Greytown, was the successful tendered for the excavation for the Coronation Swimming Baths there. The price was £333 12s. Messrs J. Brunton (£376 17s Od) and H. Trotman (£395 14s Od) were the other tenderers.
Mr J. McHattie, Postmaster, Greytown, is at present on his annual holiday of three weeks.
Mr W. G Buchanan, M.P., addressed the electors.at Hinakura on Saturday evening, and Tablelands on Monday evening.
