CARTERTON.
A welcome heavy fall of rain lias been experienced in the district, and coanes as a welcome to tine farming community. On Sunday afternoon a party of local Boy Scouts, under the Scoutmaster, Mr F. W. Roydihouse, paid a visit to tihe South Wairarapa Hospital at Greytown to see District Com/mandex Mbore, who has been laid up there. Hie lads were pleased to fiiiudi the Commander convalescent an-j looking forward to an early restoration to complete health. New business hours have been gazetted for the tobacconists of Carterton, and came into force yesterday. On Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays they close at 8 p.m.' each evening; 8.30 p.m. on Wednesdays, 1 p.m. on Thursdays, and 11 p.m.' on Saturday®. Writing to his people from ,Los Angeles, Mi- T. Caffister, late of Oartertcm, announces his arrival there after a-pleasant trip, being very miuch impressed with, the scenery. Mr. Oallister has gone to -take up his residence in America for a whilei At'tihe recent Hunt Club siteepledhase meeting at CEareville, a discusision arose over the speed of a couple of the horses competing, and the argument got so warm titoat it was deemed advisable that the horses should, meet on an appointed date, and settle the doubt. Saturday last was. appointed, and the horses, together with jockeysi and numerous spectators, assembled at the course. The contestants were InveraTi and WaJiaraingi, the. former winning somienvhat easily, after an interesting "go."'
