WELLINGTON, Last Night. I Mr A. L. Herdman, M.P. for Wei- ': lington North, addressed a meeting ac J Wiadestown this evening. He cnti- ! cised the administration much on the lines of his speeches in Parliament. He said the Govern-1 ment had survived its usefulness. ; There should be a Public Service Board to control the Civil Service, which had worked well in Australia. He criticised the irailway administration, and urged that each mile 'added last year had cost £24,842, or £4736 more per mile than was the case in the previous financial year. The retrenchment of two years ago showed the , Government's incompetence, for of Civil Service had been efficiently administered no men would need to have been driven out into the street. A of thanks and confidence was carried.

WELLINGTON SUBURBS CANDIDATE.

WELLINGTON, Last Night. Mr J. E. Fitzgerald, a candidate for Wellington Suburbs and country, addressed a meeting of electors tonight. He generally., supported the Government policy. He said the Government should run steamers to carry coal from the State coal mines. He advocated the medical inspection of school children. A vote of thanks and confidence was passed.

•■; Mr F. M. B. Fisher, M.P. for Wellington Central, addressed a meeting of his constituents to-night. He outlined his political views much on the lines of his speeches in the Budget debate in Parliament. He declared himself in favour of compulsory military service. He said the proposed increase in the graduated land tax should start at a lower limit than £IOO,OOO. A vote of thanks and confidence was passed.
