MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Committee of the Masterton Borough 'Council was held last niglit, there being present: His Worship the Mayor' (Mr J. M. Coradine), Ors. A. Donald, J. P. Plrentice, J. C. Ewington, W. Candy, T. G. Hoar, F. W. Temple, J Elliott, and H. J. o ; Leary. The Manager of the Borough Abattoirs reported on the work done during August as follows: Stock slaughtered: 145 cattle, 10 calves-, 696 sheep aaid! lambs, and 90 pigis. The above included 51 cowls', 30 bullocks', 64 maiden heifers, 10, calvesi, 195 ewes., 456 wethers, 45 maiden ewes, and 90 pigs. The aggregate charges for the month amounted to £IOO Osi 6d. The report of the poundkeeper was read as follows: Impounded, during the month from withiin the Borough: 7 horses; from beyond the Borough, 1 horse, 9 cattle, and 1 sheep. The Engineer's report was read and adopted. The Minister for Public Works wirote stating that the application of the Masterton Borough and ■ County Councils for a grant of £6OO for a stock bridge over the river in Oolomlba Road would be fully considered when tlhe estimates were drawn up.— Received. An invitation to attend the openring of the Greytown Borough Gasworks was accepted. Mi- H. C. Robinson waited on the Council on be/half of Mr RadiciifFe. He stated that his client .proposed laying a drain, that would cope with the difficulty of the surface water on Mr Radcliffe's property, and he asked the Council to give permission for the laying of the drain. -A On-the motion . of the Mayor, the Council sanctioned the, Jlaying of the drain, on condition that, Mr Radcliffe bears the whole of the expenses. % The Borough Engineer reported in connection with the diverting of ike •town creek. He stated'that.in view of the heavy expense and the liabilities that would be incurred, he would not recommend any sltepa :bedng taken.— The matter was consequently dropped. Accounts amounting 4d were submitted and passed for payment. ,
