DIVERTING A STREAM.
REPORT TO BE SUBMITTED.
The Borough Engineer submitted the following report at last might's meeting of the Masteriton Borough Council:—Owing to Mr ,iMacara building upon: his section at the corner of Dixon Street and Bannister Street it hais> heeni nieoeasaTy for him ti6 pipe in that portion of the town cteek which throughj his ,sectiion, and I find upon examiination •that the wooden culvert undea* the roadway in Dixon Street is in, a bad condition, and through it 'having been extended at various times is not ma, very true lime. In • view of Mr Maoara requiring the roadwiay made up 'peirimainontly im fi-ont of his n&w building, I would recommend the Council to continue on the piping under tlie roadway at a, oost of £5-5. ; Or Hoar'said he though't the oneek should be diverted into the water channel to save ifiuntiher trouble. : The Mayor explainied' >tliat the levels did not petnm.it of tihis bedng dome. Cr Hoar then suggested 'bringing thie ■water up Chaipel Street and down' King. Street into ithe river. The Mayor .said that the people who were hemefited by the creek might object to such a course. Or Ewingtom moved that the En>gjneer report on Or Hoar's isugge&it,ion:. Hie thought if it could he djoiie it would •be a good jab that would last for all time. Or Hoar iseconded the .motion. Or CLeary said that the property owners should he approached, for he wasi almost, that thiey would object. ■ Tlie Borough Engineer point'ed out that a large amount of 'surface water drained into the istream, siwL if it wais diviertied the disposal of isau*facie water .would ihave to he considered. The Mayor thought that if /what Or O'Leary said was Itirue it would he ani inisuperable- obstacle. The imotion- was carried.
