SOUTHLAND v. WANCANUI.

INVERCARGILL, Last Night. The Intel-provincial football match! Wanganui v'. Southland was played to-day, in bad weather. A cold rain and wind prevailed, and the backsi were thereby hampered. The. wind was in favour of Wanganui in the firs* half, but the Southland forwards made most of their opportunities, while the backs were ably assisted. ■McNeece scored, the only try during the game, and Martin converted. Wanganui, in the second spell, were very near to scoring several times, but were successfully warded off, and: Southland eventually won by 5 points to-'nil." <■':■*.- ;'-' ■ ■■■''• ." '•'-"■
SHIELD MATCH.

AUCKLAND, Last Ndght.
A Ranfurly Shield football match; was played to-day,, between Auckland and South Auckland representatives. Auckland won by 21 points to 5, thus retaining the Shield. Auckland had six tries and a penalty goal, and the losers one converted try. The South Auckland forwards beat tihe Auckland pack in the early stages, but tired, and were over-run in the last quarter.
