EXTENSION OF GAS MAIN.

DOWN KURIPUNI STREET.

A deputation of ratepayers residing in Kuripuni Street waited on the Masterton Borough. Council last nighrfj in, support of an application to extend the gas main seven and a half chains down their street, in order to permit of i&ix residents taking advantage of the gas 'for lighting and cooking purposes. The deputation pointed out that the street also needed lighting, being one of the darkest in the Bor- ■ ough. It was stated that six residents -were prepared ito ibecome gas •consumers. ■- The Mayor said that the matter ' itad Ibeeii before;the Council on a previous occasion. He said that, the Council would certainly entertain the application favourably if it was considered (to be a payable business! proposition. The Mayor pointed out "that there were five chains to lay before the main came to any houses, but he promised the deputation that the Council would go fully inito the matter. The deputation, after-thanking the, ■ Council for hearing them, retired. Mr J. W. Blackmail (Gas Mana•ger) gave the probable cost of laying •tliev main as £SO, and he estimated., the revenue *ajt about £3O • per anr)n.m. if six residents took the gas for both lighting and cooking purposes. Cr Hoiar said that if the main were extended two light© in place of one oould ibe provided. Cr Ewington amoved that the •work be done, provided (that six resi- - dents signed a; guarantee to become consumers.
