EAST MAURICEVILLE.

One of the most siiccessful gatherings 'held in Mauriceville' for some years took place en. Wednesday might. The occasion, was a. complimentary social and dance tendered rto Mr'and Mrs Blackmore, who are ishortly to leave our midst. About fifty couples were present, and all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. During "the evening the following contributed songs, which Avere in every case heartily encored: —Mi* 'W. Jensen, Mr F. Parkes, Mr O'Brien, Miss Christomsen, Mrs Fisher and Mrs Jorgensen. Messrs O'Brien and Martin kept the dancing going in good orflier, and Mr R. Myers, our .popular pianist, supplied the music, which was all that could be desired. In the latter part of the evening Mr C.-C. Jackson, on behalf of the Mauriceville residents, presented Mr and Mils' Blackmore with a handsome silver tea set on a beautiful oak itray, suitably incribed, as a mark of t3ieir esteem, 1 snd of the (regret the residents felt at their departure. ' Continuing, Mr Jackson said> he knew they would both he sorely misised, for in all social functions' Mr and Mrs Blaakmore toad always taken a leading part-, and were always ready to lend a helping hand. In his public capacity as stationmaiater and postmaster he had proved himiself a.n officer of .sterling mieiit, and .had always treated the .settlers in a courteous 'and .kindly manner. In. oonoludiag, Hie wished the guests of the evening all future .jfrosperity in •their ne,w home, and trusted that' they would not forget the' many friends they had left in. Mauriceville. Other (speakers endorsed the words of Mr Jackson. Mr Blackmore, on rising to .respond, was greeted with prolonged applause. He stated thlat words failed him to try and express Ms thanks for the (manner in which they did honour to 'him and hisi that night. He would .look hack om Ms stay here as the happiest days, he had i&epai't. in Ma life, and could safely ;say he had never been among such kind amid •hospitable people. On behalf of Mrs Blackmore and himself, he thanked tlhem all for their very kind wishes and handsome present. All the company at once joined in singing "For they are Jolly Good Fellowe." Dancing was' kept up till the "wee sm&-' houra"
