PONGAROA. Tlh© annual general .meeting of tho Pongaroa Horticultural and Industrial Society was held on Saturday, sth iii'S±-. Tllue secretary ■reported a very siuccesisfml show, and a balance of '£2o. The' President of the So.ciety (Ma- A. Dickens) attributed the phenomenal success of tli-& show in such a dry season as la-sifc, largely to the untiring efforts of the lion, secretary (Mr W. T. Murray). The advisability of holding a -spring show ias well as am autum.ll one ivaa considered. A strong eoannnittee was elected for the forthcoming year. Pongaroa is short'ly to have a Reading Room in connection with the Public Library. The No-license and National Prohibitioni moveiment received 'an impetus from the visit of Mr Pees, of Woodville, and a local league has been farmed. The Rev. Mi- Tbbin, of St.Mark's, Wellington, lias, been appointed to the chan-go of the Anglican Church., and is to take up'Ms duties' in October. Mr J. C. Da-vies is conducting the services m< the interim. The Bank of New Zealand , will probably be ready for occupation.' in September. Mr Alex. Watson has. just returned firom Pahiatua, after a successful operation, for appendicitis.
