Lady Islington is at present spending a few days at her country residence at Longwood, Featherston.

Mr W. Evatt, of the Agricultural Department, Wellington, was thrown out of "his gig whilst proceeding to Martinborough on Wednesday afternoon, through his horse stumbling. He was cut about the head, but after a short rest was able to resume his journey.

Mr A. Tisch, Mayor of New Plymouth, who recently underwent a serious operation, died yesterday morning. The deceased was fifty-eight years of age.

Mr and Mrs G. W. Sellar left Masterton yesterday on a holiday trip to Rotorua.

A cable received yesterday from Rome stated that, the gout pain of His Holiness the Pope was less severe, and he had taken a little nourishment. Everyone is excluded from the Pope'j room, excepting the doctors and nurses.

A quiet wedding took place in Pahiatna yesterday afternoon, when Mr R. T. Service, of Pahiatua, and Miss Evelyn Rose, daughter of-Mr J. B. Rose, of Mangatainoka, were united in matrimony. The bride was given away by her father, and was attended by Miss Alice and Miss Annie Rose as bridesmaids. The duties of best man were performed by Mr Gordon Rose. A pleasing feature of the Mastertot; Fire Police smoke social last night was the presentation by Mr O. Pragnell (Chairman of the Fire Board) on behalf of the Fire Police of an illuminated address to ex-Secretary A. E. Wilton, who had servered his connection with the Masterton corps after eleven years faithful service. Mr Prngnell referred in eulogistic terms to the sterling qualities of the recipient, for whom three hearty cbeers were given. Mr Wilton, in replying, , said he had always endeavoured to do the utmqst for the welfare of the Corps."
