CONFLICT WITH POLICE.
MANY ARRESTS MADE. (Received Last Night, 11.20 o'clock.) LONDON. August 10. A driver of a van lirecl a revolver, slightly wounding a boy, owing to the strikers endeavouring to prevent his progress. The driver was arrested. Several disturbances have occurred in the East India docks. The police drew their batons and charged the mob. Mounted four abreast, broke the mob. Many of the bruised have been treated at Poplar Hospital. Similar baton charges were made at Deptford, Broadway. Eight arrests were made at Smithfield, owing to attacks upon .salesmen who, under the protection of the police, were attempting to handle the meat themselves. The employers are willing to recognise the Stevedores' Union, and to concede the demands of Mr Askwitb. The Conference of lightermen and coalmen has been adjourned. It is understood that the carters will join the Conference. ,
