MAN KILLS HIS WIFE AND SHOOTS HIMSELF.

DUNEDIN, Last Night. ~ A dreadful tragedy is reported from Tuapeka West. .- Thomas .Colehan, a farmer, aged 30 years, shot Ms wife through the head with a pea rifle, killing her instantly. He .then committed suicide by shooting. No cause is assigned fotilhe act. LATER. The Star's Lawrence correspondent telegraphs that Colehan was about thirty-one, and his wife, whose maiden name was Ritchie, was six years, younger. Colehan's mother kept the Saratoga Hotel, Waitati, for many years. It is alleged ith'at Colehan was given to intemperance, and when the worse for liquor indulged dm fits of temper. It is feared that when in one of these fits he committed the ead deed. Apparently Colehan and his wife had lived on the best of terms. They were .married towards the end of last year.
