OHRISTCHURCH, Last Mght: The writ for the Ghristohiurch North election was received by the Returning Officer this morning, but owing to its having been issued in Wejiington the day before, the rolls closed yesterday. It was .understtood that the rolls would .be open to-day, and a few people who intended to enrol were disappointed in consequence. The election has been fixed for Thursday, August 17th.' If a, second 'baMot is necessary it will .be held a ■week later. Nominations close at noon on Monday, August" 7th., So ;£air, none lave been received: Three candidates, however, are definitely announced'. They are Messrs J. IX ••Hail ( ( Opposition)f L: M. Isdtt, a candidate ' for the Ghristohurcih North seat, was present, and .briefly addressed the meeting, and .outlined his political platform, and answered questions. He was accorded a vote of thanks, and after he left, the Committee discussed ; the question of contesting tlie seat, \and it was unanimously decided to take no faction .in connection with rbhe bye-eleation. TMs means "that the iniemlbers of the Labour Party will have a free hand. The Committee de- < oided to run a candidate for a. seat on the City Coimdl, rendered vacant by the election of Or. J. J. Dougall as Mayor.
