THE OPENING CEREMONY.

WELLINGTON, Last Night.
. The fourth, session of the seventleenth, Parliament of New Zealand was opened at 2.30 by His Excellency 1 the Governor, with r L ho usual ceremonies. His Excellency was accompanied T >y his aidec-de-oamp (Captains Shannon and JVLcDougali), Colonel Collins, honorary A.D.C. (who appeared in •this capacity for the first tame), and othisr members of !hi\s <staff, and. several officers fo the Territorial Forces, including Major-General Gtodley, Colonels Collins and 'Rabin. The ixvliute was fired upon the approach of the Governor, who was sainted outisdde the miain entrance of Parliament Buildings by a Guard of Honour, consisting of the Heretaunga Light Horse, members of the Permanent Artillery, and ,boyi& from the training chip A'mokura. Previous .to this the one gallery of the Council Chamber was well filled with ladies, who entirely ousted the Press reporters, and on the floor of the Chamber were Lady Islington and itho wives of Miniisters and other privileged liadios. There was a fair attendance of members of tihe Upper Hou«e. The Governor, .having summoned the members of the Lower House, read in clear tones has speech. He and his party then retired amid another salvo of cannon and a salute from the' Guard. Among tihoire present on the floor of the Council- Chamber were the Irish delegates, Messrs Redmond, Donovan, and Haaelton.
