THE STIPENDIARY MAGISTRATE.
A Carterton deputation to the Hon. T. Mackenzie mentioned a subject on Tuesday which has been a matter of comment in tine Wairarapa for .some time past. Mr L. G. Reid, S.M., is an excellent Magi trate. He is a hard and untiring worker, who strives to convenience everybody. But— Ms home is in Wellington. It is thought that the public convenience would he better served if the Magistrate were, to follow the example of his predecessors, and take up his abode in Masterton. There are many reasons why the Stipendiary Magistrate should reside in the district over which he has jurisdiction. -.Some of these were enumerated by the Carterton deputation. Probably, now that public attention has been drawn to the matt'or, Mr Reid may feel that, even at the sacrifice of his own convenience, and possible comfort, it is desirable that he should make his home, in Masterton. That he would be welcomed as a permanent resident goes without saying.
