It was through sheer irony of fate that a Christohuroh man who drew a prize was run to earth and.fined for a breach of the Claming Act, There are scores of others who would be delighted to be fined under similar circumstances. But the authorities, who know that the. law is being flagrantly and impudently defied, seem powerless to act. Thousands —nay, hundreds of thousands— of pounds of .hard-earned coin is going out of this country annually for investment in. "TattersallV sweeps. The Post Office officials know it. The police are awa.re of the fact. The Government is cognisant of the wholesale' gambling that is going on. Oan nothing be done to. check this drain' Tipon our resources, this illicL + gambling? The answer can be given only by the Government.
