THE COMPETITIONS.
Considerable public interest is being manifested in the musical and literary competitions which commence in Masterton to-morrow. The promoters of these competitions are inspired with a commendable zeal for the im-. provement of musical and literary tastes among the people of the district, and with a worthy ambition to attract visitors to the town. The initial effort, though it will doubtless reveal minor mistakes, (promises to be an unqualified success. The publio of Masterton has always shown itself .ready to assist movements which make for the good of the com<•munity, and the enthusiasm which is being manifested over this we&ks£" festival is a happy social and the undertaking.-•-•■-'•'•,'"'
