SHEARING RATES.
Sheep-farmers in this district should consider very carefully their position before they determine upon paying the minimum a.ward of 19s 6d per hundred for shearing. They are, of course, quite entitled to pay the minimum award when .shearers demand that all other conditions shall be rigidly enforced. If, however, there,is a disposition on the part of shearers to give and take, the owners would bo ill-advised to be insistent upon the rate of wages. There is a danger that, if the minimum award bo adherod to, a great difficulty will be experienced in securing a sufficient number of shearers.
