A DOMESTIC TRAGEDY.
DRINK AND ITS VICTIMS. A sad, domestic tragedy resulting from the overindulgence in alcohol by the head of a family, was urn- j folded in the Magistrate's- Court at Masterton "yesterday. An unhappy woman, with two children, formerly residing in Dannevirke and Hawera, sought a maintenance order against ,'v her husband. The story was that Mjt her husband, who was in other respects a good' man, had become a vdoiim to drink. Be kad occupied responsible positions in the Dominon, and had been in business on has own' account, "but lost all through his intemperate habits. On more than one occasion their home had ~ 'been sola up, and they had been on ijjad verge of starvation. Finally the woman and her children had sought shelter with her parents. She had endeavoured to maintain herself, - but heir health gave way, and she was compelled.to come to the Court to ask for an order against her husband, who had frequently been appealed to in vain. Mr Cullen, who appeared for the complainant, said "jObis client would be satisfied with a X ismall order, as she hoped to, earn money at painting. Mr L. G.
