THE BAD GIRL OF THE FAMILY.

The production, of Frederick Melville's sensational drama, "The Bad Girl of the Family," by Mr George Marlow's Dramatic Company, drew a- large attendance at the Town Hall Mastertoiii, last evening. The play is an intensely interesting one, and was followed with keenest interest by those present. ■ The story is, briefly, about the Moo-res-, gentlefolk in reduced ckcumstauces. Bess (the bad girl) is keeping the -family going, partly by working, but principally by harrowing money at ruinous rates from Barney Gordon, wiho by iSomie means has- obtained proprietary interests in the firm #f Berry and Robertson, where both Bess and her unpleasant sister Honor are employed. The villain.,- Harry Gordon, wiho is much given to the use of improper language, has professed love to both girls in turn, and has deserted them in order to make love to Gladys Ersltine, who repulses him with scorn,..preferring Ilea' sailor BweetHeaa',t to; the rich young Jew. However, the haughty Earl i& so much in. the elder Gordon's power that he lends himself to his ambitious designs, and) but for Bess impersonating Gladys, the union wonld take place. During an altercation with Leiuteaiant Marsh at the dead of night .the Earl is shot by a burglar, wiho had come to steal the wedding presents. Of courise the sailor is charged with the deed. He is condemned to death, and Gladys marries him on tlie night before the hanging is to take place. With the burglar he escapes, and the play ends happily. The cast is a strong one, in fact >all the parts liaving capable exponents. Mr Herbert Bentley was ..-distinctly good in the role of Lieut. Marsh, while Mr Bert Linden, in his conception of the part of Har r ny Gordon was excellent. The character of Lord Erskame was* skillfully taken by Mr P. Scully, and Mr' C. Stanford's depiction of Barney Gordon was particularly well tafoen. .The pourtrayal of "The Bad Girl" -was in the hands of Miss Ada Guilford, who gave a most forceful characterisation of the part. Miss Adele Kelly was partaoulairly telever in the role of Gladys ErskSwe, as also were Miss A. Jenkins as "Mrs Moore" and Miss I. Gfpesha-m as "Honor Moore." The remaining parts were all well sustained.
