STREET LIGHTING.
LAMPS FOR KURIPUNI STREET. The gas manager (Mr J. W. Blackmail) reported concerning the proposed lamps in Kuripuni Street to the Masterton Borough Council at last night's meeting, as follows:---The street from South Road to the junction of Columba Road is 45 chains long, and the cost of laying a threeinch cast-iron main the full length would be about £247 10s. . There are seventeen dwellings of which six are willing to become consumers at once, nine are doubtful, and two' gave ' a decided answer in the negative. The revenue would>*obably run into about £4 per dwelling per annum, so that if twelve customers could be secured the main would'at present hardly pay interest. There are, however, in Columba Road close to the intersection of Kuripuni Street, six houses, of which five have indicated their willingness to become customers. About ten chains of 2-inch pipes at a cost of £3o aded to the Kuripuni Street would help towards making the main a payable proposition. Cr. Pragneli moved and Cr. O'Leary seconded, that Mr Blackman be instructed to lay a main 10 or 12 chains down the street and erect two lamps Cr. Elliott moved a.? an ame.'.dntxit that the matter be referred back to ; the manager for a- further report au-ii | recommendation. ] The amendment was lost, and tlio i motion on lieing nut was carried.
