Mr Crooke, Stipendiary Magistrate at Greymouth, has received notice of his transfer to Whangarei.

The death occurred in the Pahiatua Hospital on Saturday night of Mrs William Prit-chard, t wife of a wellknown settler of Kumeroa. Miss Charlotte A. Radford, of Woodville, was married last week to Mr Samuel Moore, of Hunterville.

Mr I). E. Parton, writing to friends in Ma sterton, states that he is doing well in Suva, although it is hard for a New Zealander to settle down to the easy-going life of that part.

The many friends of Mr John Hessey, of Masterton, will be glad to learn that he has made a good recovery since his recent operation. He is expected to return to his home to-day or to-morrow.

Mr H. Beck, of Palmerston North, who has been on a visit to friends in Masterton, returns to his home today.

A London cable states that Lady Stout was among those who marched in the Suffragette procession to the Albert Hall.

The Ashbnrton Mail of Saturday says:—Mr W. Hodgkins expects to leave Ashburton for his new post—the managership of the Masterton branch of the Bank of New South Wales—on Friday next. His departure will 'be severely felt in many circles here.

Bv the death of Mrs Martha J. Mullenger Otago loses another of its old identities, and Raveusbourne its oldest inhabitant. Mrs Mullenger, who died suddenly at her residence, was one of the Surat passengers, and arrived in Dunedin some 37 years ago.

Mr William Giblin, an old resident of Nelson,,,died on Friday .last at the advanced age of 94.

Mr F. H.* Fraser, who was for many, years District Secretary of the Rechabites, and was one of the founders of the New Zealand Alliance, is reported to be seriously ill in Wellington.

The remains of the late Sydney Jo Hansen were conveyed to their last resting place in the'Masterton Cemetery yesterday afternoon, and were followed by many friends and neighbours. Children from the Miki Miki school acted as pall-bearers and many beautiful wreaths were placed on the coffin. The service was conducted by the Rev. W. Raine. In another column the parents return thanks to friends and sympathisers. . _ -

Last Wednesday .evening, at Hastwell, a farewell social was tendered to Miss Edn.i Bannister, who has been assistant teacher in the Hast well school for the past two years. Daring the-evening Miss Bannister was presented with a silver tea service, as a slight token of the esteem in which she is held by all. Several eulogistic speeches were made, and the speakers expressed pleasure because Miss Bannister's absence from the district is to be only a temporary one. Miss Bannister suitably replied. The evening was spent in dancing, and the gathering did' not disperse until the early hours of Thursday morning.

At the break-up for the mid-winter holidays of the Dalefield school, Mifes Kiimartin, who has lx>en transferred to Korokoro (Petone), was presented by the pupils of the school with a handsome silver-mounted manicure set. The Chairman of the Committee, Mr J. Hodder, expressed his and the parent's regret at losing Miss Ivilmar'.tin's services, and wished her success in her new sphere. Miss Kiimartin thanked the Chairman for his kind remarks and the children for their beautiful present, and said that the Dalefield children would always have a warm corner in lier heart. Cheers for the teacher and the Chairman brought a pleasing little ceremony to a close.
