TE WHARAU. Mr Bates' rainstorm arrived here on Sunday evening, and continued untu Thursday. practically with little abatement.' The weather during the stonm has been the boldest experienced on the East Coast this winter, and is sure to have a damaging effect upon stock. Mr Lees, of the Technical School, held his fortnightly wood class here on Monday, wben there was a large attendance of fanners. The Te Wiharau Boxing Olub held a very successful opening meeting on Tuesday evening, when a good number of enthusd-astic-s were present to receive their first lessons in the "nioWe art." „ TJie local sdiooil close<s on the 16th inst. for the Goronatioui and winter vacation. Mr Bert Oox has been acting postmaster tlhiis week in the absence of Mr F. C. H. Cotter, wiho has been called away on urgent business. He proposes to shut up one paddook from all stock, and manure the adjacent one with basic slag, and considers that the result will be surprising. CARTERTON. Mr T. CaEAster, son of Mr H. CaUister, of Carterton, is leaving shortly for the United States, where he purposes spending two years. If the surroundings are to his likens: he will probably permanently reside there. The local State School oloseJ on Friday for the mid-winter vacation of a week, and an extra week for the Coronation. Messrs F. G. Mayfle and W. C. Gallon, Vice-Presidents} of .the Dalefield Football 01u,b, have made dona-, tdons to the Club's funds. Mr Purakau Maika has donated £1 to the funds of the Carterton Football Club.
