THE CLAIMS OF MANCHESTER.
A commumication from Mr J as. McOonechy, Chief Traffic Superintendent of the Manchester Ship Canal Company, to Mr W. D Lys"ar, was read at the meeting ot the Alasterton A and P. Association on Saturday. After congratulating Mr Lysnar upon having caused the people in London to "waken up," Mr MteConechy says: _"J hope that when you have time to give a closer consideration to Manchester as a distributing point, I Bhall hear from you, and I shall be very glad to receive suggestions as 'to how far this can. be carried out, and to co-operate with- you an every way possible. Of course, it is understood that London is the preset* market for New Zealand; but I think that the time has now come when an effort should be made by the producers to create a strong market in the "North, which would be a-good standby along with the London market. The sooner .the-oroducers realise tiros, I think it-will «e the better for them. As I have pointed out td you.
several times before . . • • f e can show the greatest saving in distributing the. meat amongst the greatest number of consumers from Manchester than any other port.
