TOWN HALL LIGHTING.

ELECTRICITY TO BE INSTALLED.

The Town Hall Lighting Committee last night recommended the Trust to inatal electric light in the Town Hall at a cost of £650, if arrangements can he made to pay off the whole amount out of current income within three years-

Mr Eton said that the estimate of £650 was made by Mr Blackmail, but he thought the work could be done at a consideralbly smaller cost.

A letter vnas'read from the Palace Company in Wellington, stating the price of an engine they had for sale was ,£256, and that they could not accept £lB5. Mr Krahagen said that he had heard that an offer of £225 would be accepted. He thought that the extra money earned with electric light would in three years pay for the installation. It would be a valuable asset.

Mr CajseDberg said the matter of ligluting the Town Hall had been under consideration for a number off years, and he now thought that something definite should be done. He was of opinion that tlie cost was rather high, otherwise he agreed with the committee's recommendation. He moved, that the report be adopted. Mr Krahagen seconded the motion.

Mr Eton said, in answer to Mr Pauling, that the Towm Hall was a paying concern to the extent of 2 or 3 per cent. Mr Pauling said it was a. big burden to put on 'the shoulders off the Trust. A man would have to be employed to look after the plant, and altogether' it would be an expensive item. He wanted to know what revenue the electric light would produce, and from where the £650 was to come.

Mr Erbon said lie intended to propose that the matter of tike £660 be referred to a finance committee..

(Mr PraigneU said the amount wlas a large one, and he would like to see it reduced considerably. He, however, favoured the installation, stating that he thought it would add to tiha Town Ball revenue.

The motion for the adoption of the report was carried. The ; question of arranging details will now be considered by t<he Lighting Committee.
