CARTERTON,
The main road at Belvedere in the vicinity of Messrs Bonds' property is in a rather slopjy condition at the present time, due to the continued moist weather. The authorities should give this portion of the thoroughfare attention before the winter proceeds much further. The first of a series of winter socials under the auspices of St. Mark's Church is to be held in the schoolroom on Tuesday evening next. These socials were inaugurated last winter, and proved very enjoyable, and consequently should be well attended this, winter.
Mr H. Hawkins, of Carrington Settlement, has disposed of his interest in his farm there, and proposes returning to the Old Country. The local branch of the Wairarapa Egg Circle have been advised that eggs are now realising 2s Id per dozen in the Wellington market. The second game in the local Friendly Societies' card tournament was played on Wednesday evening, when the Druids defeated the Oddfellows by 32 games to 29. At a meeting of the Fire Brigade o\ Wednesday evening it was decided i > take part in a fancy costume footbn i match on Coronation Day.
