ARBITRATION ACT.

To appreciate the full significance of the reply given by the Minister for Labour to a deputation which waited upon him last week, the public must carefully analyse the statement. The Hon. J. A. Millar said that if the Trades Unions passed a resolution in favour of abolishing the Labour Department, ~he would; introduce a Bill to give effect to their wishes. Supposing, for the sake of argument, therefore, that the Trades Unions were to accept the challenge, what would happen? The. Labour Department would probably be wiped out, and there would be no means of enforcing the Arbitration Act. Mr Miliar practically said that ■ he would repeal the Arbitration Act at the request of a minority of the people. Can the Dominion, as a whole, retain confidence in a Government wthich would be prepared to pun&ue such a revolutionary and undemocratic course?
