The athjetic bodies of New Zealand aTe actively canvassing a petition in •favour of the Daylight Saving Bill introduced by Mr T. K. Sidey, of Duneßin. Hie objedi of the Bill is ,fco pijit the docfes of xfche' Domaniaii .back for an hour in the summer tribirt|iis. - By tlhis "•••.>aeaiis, offices, * shops, and. lactones would open at ! seven in- the morniilg and work would be suspended at four in the afternoon. This would £:ve, in the middle of summer, about four hours of daylight at a- stretch in which, nthe various forms of sport might be pursued. From the/ point of view of athletes, there is much to reeom-( mend the proposal. There would, however, be the manifest disadvantage, in the saving of daylight for atheltios, in that evening entertainments "would "either Have to be started in daylight, or continued until ,\n unreasonably late hour.
