RAILWAY APPEAL BOARD.
A CROSS' CREEK CASE. The North Island Railway Appeal Board concluded the hearing yesterday morning of the appeal of Joseph William Haughie, lato fireman and acting-engine-driver, Cross' Creek, against his dismissal for failing to come on duty at the time booked and being unfit to tako charge of an engine through over-indulgence in alcoholic liquor. Appellant, in the course of his evidence, said his appearance on the occasion when he v, as suspended was due to loss of sleep and illness. It did not enter his head to tell Mr Hope (locomotive foreman) about his illness when it was sugge ted that be was under the influence of liquor. A considerable amount of evidence was taken as to the- condition of the appellant on the occasion. The findings of the Board have ?>ee:i forwarded to the •Minister of Railways.
