EXCITING MOTOR ACCIDENT.

LADY DUDLEY SEVERELY SHAKEN. (Received Last Night, 10.30 o'clock.) SYDNEY, May 31. The motor car of Lord Dudley, Governor-General of the Commonwealth, with Lady Dudley aboard, became jammed between two moving trams in Oxford Street to-day. The car was badly smashed. Lady Dudley was severely shaken, but otherwise was uninjured. LATER, Lady Dudley was slightly bruised and shaken. Her escape was a sensational one. She was taking her daily drive in her fifty horse-power "Daimler" car, the chaffeur being the only other occupant. The driver attempted to cross between two trams running in opposite directions, being under the impression that one was about to stop at a nonstop street. Realising that a collision was inevitable, the chaffeur swung the car partially round between the trams. The drivers .eased the speed of the cars.

One car struck the motor smartly and the other tram jammed it.

Splintered glass and woodwork was scattered over Lady Dudley, who showed great coolness and nerve in her perilous position. She declared that she was unhurt, and considered the accident unavoidable. She returned to Government House in a cab. But for the chaffeur's action in swinging the car round and the trams easing off, the car between must have been cut in two.

The windows and woodwork were smashed, otherwise the damage was not serious.
