Indeed, it is qquestionable wliether the suggested policy for speedily opening up the Native lands "would appeal to the Minister. The Advocate is of opinion that the Crown should acquire the whole of the Native estates and throw it open for settlement. The 'Age is of precisely tihe same opinion. As, however, the purchase of the lands would involve extensive borrowing, the Age suggests that they be leased- by the Crown, and sub-leased to Europeans, who should be given the right of purchase.
