THE DOMINION'S FINANCES.
The announcement which the Acting- | Minister of Finance (Hon. J. A. j MilLar) made at Ihinedin last night 00/iuaerning the finances of tlie Dominion is satisfactory reading. The surplus of £586,483, though not as large a.s that of previous years, is still very encouraging. Possibly the most- pleasing intelligence contained in the ispeech is that, the revenue increased in the year iby over £1,000,000 as compared with the previous year. This shows that the Dominion 'has recovered from tihe period of depression through which it had been passing. That the expenditure should have increased in an even greater ratio is a subject for comI ment.
