Masiterton lias been crying out for closer 'settlement; but it lias cried in vain l . lit lias been demanding that local industries create themselves; but none have been created. Why ? Because /the thing is impossible. There has ibeen too much advice and too little practical work. What is required to set. the ball of progress rolling is for a few shrewd citizens to pu/t itheir heads together and suggest something practical and practicable. There is an abundance of capital' in the district waiting for investment ; btut nobody seeans to be able to discover a profitable industry in which it may b© employed. What aibout a wooden factory, a soap works, a pickle industry, a tannery, a brash works ? Are none of these .suited ito the district? What of the clay deposits and the houndless mineral resources? Can none of these 'be exploited ? Let us look around, amid: see.
