TE WHARAU.
The recent rains have done a- great j amount of good to the surrounding, district, and farmers generally consider that winter feed is well assured. Crutching operations commence this week, and will end the season's , busy time, as far as the sheepfarraer is concerned. The heavy rains have done a certain amount of harm to the roads, and in several places slips have come down. Last year the roads in this district were in a very bad stat?, owing to slips. Messrs Vennell Bros, are engaged in building a handsome new house for Mr Kowhai ,of Te Wharau. It is expected that wool-classing clacsas wall be held for this winter., and considering the amount of interest evinced by settlers, should be a great success. Mr R. Barrer, of Lowlands, is making all arrangements. The Te Wharau Rifle Club will hold a "shoot" on Saturday, 6th inst., when a good muster of riflemen is expected to be present. Tli' 3 election of a school committee had to be postponed owing to bad weather, which prevented the settlers from turning out. The committee will be appointed at the meeting of householders this month.
