PERSONAL.

The late Mr E. J. Riddiford, whose sadden death is reported in the Age this morning, was a brother-in-law of Mr A. R. Bunny, of Masterton. He has alro numerous other relatives in the Wairarapa district.

The friends of Mr G. A. Jones, headmaster of the Te Ore Ore school, whoso illness was reported m a recent issuo of the Age, will regret to hear that he has found it necessary to undergo an opperation for appendicitis at the Masterton Hospital.

The funeral of the late Mrs Ralph Bartlett took place in Masterton yesterday afternoon. The hearse was followed by a large number of relatives and friends of the family. The coffin was covered with floral tributes.

Mr H. F. Green, who was last night appointed accountant to the Masterton Borough Council, is a married man, thirty-four years of age. He was for several years ledger-keeper for Messrs Eland Bros., of the Old Country, and since January last has been ledger-keeper for Messrs Dalgety and Co., of Masterton.

Mr W. Noble, accountant at the Masterton Railway Station, who has been promoted to a nosition at the Thorndon Station, will probably leave for Wellington to-day. Pending the arrival of his successor, Mr W. P. Carter, Official Receiving Officer, will fill the vacancy in the Masterton office.

A Press Association message from Timaru states that a. distressing feature in connection with the typhoid fever cases at Fairlie is that .Dr.. Cook's wife and her sister were first taken ill. Then Dr. Cook himself ("who was a brother of Dr. Cook, of Masterton) was seized with the fever. Both tMe doctor and his sister-in-law have died, and Mrs Cook is not aware of the death of either.

Our Te Wb.nrau correspondent writes:—Mr and Mrs Bonny, of fxlenburn, sailed for England by the' Riianehu, which left Wellington last Thursday.—Dr. McKay, of Greymouth, is paving a. short visit at "Brackenfield."—Mr J. K. Ross, of Flat Point, left for Dunedin, last week to spend his winter vacation.
