DOUBLE TRAGEDY.
MURDER AND SUICIDE. ACT OF YOUNG HALF-CASTE MAORI. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Last Night. The Star's Taumarunui correspond dent telegraphs that a murder and suicide occurred at midday yesterday on the banks of the Ongarue River, 150 yards from the boat landing. A young half-cast? Maori, Tanine Bell, is supposed to have murdered Anna Thomas, who was also a halfcaste, cutting her throat with a razor, then cutting his own throat with another razor. The tragedy was witnessed by ,Mr Harris, who promptly secured the assistance of a local doctor and the police. 'The bodies were conveyed to the morgue. The tragedy is attributed to jealousy, Bell and the woman having been keeping company, A Taihape Press Association telegram adds that Bell was twenty years of age, and Thomas eighteen. Bell was a prominent footballer. He had attended church in the morning, and met Miss Thomas oil returning, about 11.45.
