TREE PLANTING IN WAIRARAPA.
' The institution of Arbor Day as a special period for tree planting was well conceived, and has been beneficial, as the improved appearance of public reserves throughout the Dominion can testify. Farmers and settlers generally recognise the necessity for planting trees for shelter, use, and ornamentation, to replace Li>e native bush that has so ruthlessly been destroyed. The., old-estab-lished firm of nurserymen, Messrs Thos. Horton, Limited, of Pahiatua and Hastings, are well-known throughout the Wa;irarapa. This year, as in former seasons, the firm have a splendid stock of all sort 3 of trees—fruit, shelter, ornamental, native, roses, etc. Settlers who plant trees are aware that these not only improve the value of, their own 'properties, but benefit the whole district in which their properties lie. Trees continue growing into profit while the planter is waking or sleeping, and do not wait for holidays. Ask any land agent, and he will say that a property with good' plantations, a nice orchard, and shrubbery, is twice as easy to place as one barren of trees, no matter what the price. A few pounds spent every year in tree planting will soon prove a valuable asset. In this connection, Messrs Thos. Horton, Ltd., will be glad to furnish all particulars regarding fruit, ornamental, or other trees.
