MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. Tlie monthly meeting of tTie Masterton Borough Council was held last night, there being present,— His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. M. Coradine), Crs. Morris, J. Prentice, J. C. Ewington, W. Pragnell, T. G. Hoar and F. W. Temple. An apology for absence was received from Cr J. Elliott. ; The caretaker of the Public Park mad£ application for £5 to purchase trees to be planted for ornamentation in the Park.— The application was granted. A letter was received from the Masterton County Council, asking the Borough Council to bear part of the cost of a bridge over the Waipoua river at Columba Road, and to pay a. small portion of 'the cost of upkeep.— Consideration of this matter was deferred.

The Masterton County Council applied for a progress payment in connection with the Northern approach work.— It was decided;' to pay the amount the loan money was to hand.

The resignations were received of the outside foreman (Mr Sowman), and. the Borough turncock (Mr McDougall).— The resignations were accepted, and the Mayor and the Borough Engineer were authorised to make 'arrangements to fill the vacant positions. An application from the manager of the Borough Abattoirs ■ for an increase in salary was held over for the incoming Council to deal with. The Librarian reported that the new books received during the last four weeks was 40, number in at present 5752, number lent out 1508, subscriptions received £6 17s 6d. J. Culloty asked for a lease of the Council's road plough and engine.The application for the use of the plough was granted, but the Court-' cil refused to lend the engine. On the motion of the Mayor, the Town Clerk and Borough Engineer was authorised to sign cheques and' two documents of the Council.

It was decided to call application's for the position of Borough accountant at a weekly salary of £3 10s to riso to £4 in two years. , "" ;
