"FEEDER" RAILWAYS.
In reply to a deputation which waited upon him in the South yesterday, in reference to the extension of railways, the Hon. T. Mackenzie is re- . ported to have said that the question of borrowing for "feeder" railways which were urgently necessary all over the oountry, must soon be re•oonsidered. This is quite a different story to that told in Masterton recently by the ' Minister for Public Works. The Hon. T. Mackenzie, . apart from his "wobbling" proclivities, is a shrewd business man. He can see clearly that the main trunk if they are to be made ; to pay, must be fed by district railways such as that proposed to be constructed 'between Masterton and Pongaroa. In view of the statement cmade by the [Minister for Agriculture, it would seem as though the opinion of the Minister for Public Works was not shared by his colleagues. It would be interesting to know just where the Cabinet stands is this matter of railway construction.
