QUESTION OF FEDERATION

The question of the amalgamation of the two Federations of Labour- at present existing in the Dominion, the New Zealand Federation of Labour (registered), commonly referred to as the Miners' Federation, and the, New Zealand Trades and Labour Council's Federation of Labour, was discussed at .some length by the Trades and Labour Conference to-day, the speakers expressing opinions favourable to amalgamation. . Mr R. Breen (Otago) moved: — ''That the conference be requested; to make a further effort to bring about an amalgamation of the two Federations of Labour." After a long discussion, the opinion of the speakers being in favour of the proposal, the motion was agreed to unanimously. It was decided to telegraph to the secretary of the Miners' Federation, and ask that a conference should be held as early as possible for the purpose- of bringing about the amalgamation. Mr McLaren gave notice to move "That a committee be set up to go into the matter and report on the basis of amalgamation." '•
