THE DROUGHT BROKEN.

A TIMELY RAIN,

The long drought which has been experienced in the Wairarapa was broken on Saturday. Shortly before daylight a heavy downpour of rain occurred, and showers fell on and off throughout the day. Reports from the back country indicate that the rain was general. Although' the fall was not considerable, the effect upon pastures and- vegetation will be very appreciable. The quantity of rain registered in Masterton up till Sunday morning was 42 points, or very nearly half an inch.
