ANNUAL MEETING. # _. The annual general meeting of the Masterton Mounted Rifks was held last evening, Captain J. C. McKillop presiding over an attendance oi about thirty. The balance sheet was presented, and showed' that the corps was in a sound financial position. • The following committees were elected : —Shooting Committee, Sergt. Bannister, Corporal Burrows, Troopers Bannister, JPearsa, and S. Welch; Range Committee, Sergeant-Major Welch, Sergeants Barnes and Bannister ; Finance Committee, Quartermaster Sergeant Barnes, Sergt. Welch, and Corporal Burrows; Auditors, Corporal Burrows and Regimenta. Sergt.-Major Collier. Lieutenant Skelly, area officer, was present, and at the close of the addressed the squadron at length in reference to the new tions. .He Went- into edtails, and explained matters relating to parade, ,etc. ~iiecessary under the new defence scheme.
A letter was received from Major Sand-'mann, Acting Adjutant of the second regiment, Wellington-East Coast Mounted Rifles,. Napier, stating that- orders had been received from the Officer commanding the district to amalgamate the present squadrons .at Masterton and Eketahuaia, and form one squadron "only, with their headquarters ait Eketahuna, the object being to bring the new squadron up ..o the establishment laid down.
The movement is being strongly supported •by Captains McKillop (Masterton-) and Prendeville (Eket-a-huna). Major Sandtmann and Lieut. Morrison, the new Adjutant, will confer with thei Captains before making detail arrangements. v
