INSPECTOR OF NUISANCES.
A NEW ARRANGEMENT. } Dr Frengley, of the Public Health ! department, waited on tJie Masterton Borough Council last night in reference to the arrangements as regards thf. Inspector of infectious diseases under the new Health Act. He .proposed that the Council, in addition to paying £22 6s necessary under the Act towards the salary of an infectious diseases inspector, contribute £SO and still retain the services of Mr Cairns as Inspector of (Nuisances for the Borough. This would enable the Council to utilise the remaining amount originally paid to Mr Cairns for the purpose of paying a man to carry out the various other duties recently carried out by Mr Cairns.
The Mayor stated that the most important question was whether the remaining amount would be sufficient, as the Council was desirous, if possible, of decreasing the office allowance and not adding to it. After some discussion, it was resolved to act as suggested by Dr Frengley, subject to Mr Oairos taking up his permanent residence in Masterton.
