A PROLONGED DROUGHT.
ANXIETY- OF SETTLERS. Rain has not fallen in tEe' Wairarapa in any quantity since February 25th. The country is wearing a parched and burnt-up appearance in parts, and all kinds of root crops and vegetation are languishing. Streams liave dried up in all directions, and wells are beginning to give out in the country districts. Those dependent upon tanks for their domestic supply of water are in a very bad way. Stock, also, is 'beginning to suffer, and unless rain soon falls there will be a scarcity of feed. Old settlers aver that they have never previously experienced such a long stretch of dry weather at this season of the yeaiv„
