HUNT CLUBS.
AND THE BOOKMAKERS. .A letter was read at the meeting •of the Masterton "'A. and P. Association on Saturday from the Woodlands Hunt Club at Pahiatua, stating that in view of the recent gaming legisla--1 tion it was to be presumedi that race meetings held under the auspices of .hunting institutions would .be deprived of.a.large portion of their revenue :in the shape of fees collected from bookmakers, which would mean that institutions of this kind would be unable to carry on unless assistance i"* in another, or other directions. The Club pointed out the amount of support received by A. and P. Associations from hunting enthusiasts, and asked the Committee to consider in what way, financially or otherwise, it could assist the Woodlands Club. It might be necessary to ask the Association to give -the Club and similar institutions its moral assistance in bringing the mattea* beifore the •.proper authorities, with a view to obtaining special totalizator permits for meetings held by the various Hunt Clubs of New Zealand. Any proposals made by the Assooiatio;! would be placed before the Woodlands Club before its season opened. The President (Mr W. Perry) stated that Mr C. F. Vallance had attended a meeting ;at Palmerston North in reference to the matter. As Mr Yallance was not present, it would be advisable to hold the matter over until next meeting. This course was agreed to.
