A Nelson wire states that Councillor T. Field will oppose the sitting Mayor (Mr T. Pettit) at the coming Mayoralty elections. [Mr S. R. ;Edwards has been asked to allow himself to be nominated for one of the vacant seats on the Masterton Borough Council, and is considering the matter.

Mr D. E. Parton, formerly of the Masterton Post Office, and more recently of Taihape, has been on a visit to Masterton. . He leaves here for Wellington this morning, en route for Fiji, where he has received an appointment under the Fijian Government to take charge of the electrical installations throughout the Islands. Mr Parton expects to be absent from the Do ninion for sis or twelve months. Mrs Parton and family will reside in Masterton during that period.
Mr A. W. Hogg, M.P., yeserday received an invitation to ,be present at a banquet to be tendered to the Hon. R. McKenzie at Pongaroa on Tuesday. Mr Hogg finds it impossible for him to be present. ■
Mr T. M. Page, of Eketahuna, was yesterday admitted a barrister of the Supreme Court.
Advices have been received that General Sir R. Baden-Powell will visit Australia and New Zealand early next year on a short lecturing tour in connection with the Boy Scout movement.
The Hon. J. Carroll, Acting-Prime Minister —who has been indisposed for the past two days—is now much better and able to transact State business.
A London cable states that Mr John Henniker Heaton, M.P., formerly Postmaster-General for England, is seriously ill.
The Right Hon. H. H. Asquith, Prime Minister of Britain, is, according to a cable received last night, suffering from a cold, and was unable to attend a dinner to the now Victorian Governor.
